Wisdom Teeth Removal

Although the extraction of wisdom teeth might be recommended for an older patient, the early removal of problematic or potentially problematic ones in young adults is often the case.

Following this assessment, every option in care, and any potential complications are discussed. All procedures are performed under appropriate anesthesia and sedation as needed to ensure patient comfort. 

Before Surgery:

• Fasting: Do not eat or drink on the day of your procedure, except for any approved medications, which can be taken with a small sip of water.
• Escort: You must have a parent or responsible adult accompany you to the appointment, as you cannot be released alone after the procedure.
• Anesthesia Options: Most patients prefer sedation during the procedure. We offer various anesthesia levels to suit your comfort needs, and our team is highly skilled in administering them safely.

After Surgery:

• Numbness and Drowsiness: It’s normal to feel drowsy and experience numbness in your jaw for the rest of the day. You may also feel some gum swelling or a sensation of the gums pulling away, which is part of the healing process.
• Diet: Begin with clear liquids and gradually move to soft foods. Avoid dairy products on the first day, as they may cause nausea when combined with anesthesia.
• No Straws: Avoid using straws or tobacco products during recovery, as they can disrupt the healing clot and lead to a painful condition called dry socket.
• Pain Management: Have your prescribed or over-the-counter pain medications on hand for when the anesthesia wears off to help manage discomfort.
